Children's Specialists Division of Pediatric Rheumatology provides the only comprehensive program to care for children with arthritis and related conditions in San Diego County. The team, led by a Board Certified Pediatric Rheumatologist, provides comprehensive evaluation, treatment and follow-up services to children with complex, life threatening and chronic rheumatic diseases.

In addition to two experienced physicians, the team is comprised of one pediatric clinical nurse specialist, a pediatric physical and occupational therapist, a social worker, a nutritionist and a parent consultant. The entire team is paneled by California Children's Services (CCS) as the only recognized provider in the County of San Diego. Patients are seen by appointment five days a week at the Rady Children's Hospital campus. Patients are also seen at outpatient clinic locations in Murrieta, Riverside, Escondido, El Centro, and Encinitas.

The Pediatric Rheumatology team is completely integrated into the programs of the local Arthritis Foundation. The local chapter of the Arthritis Foundation has funded physical and occupational therapists during clinic hours, two hours per week, to evaluate children whose insurance does not allow access to these important services. Through collaborative efforts between Children's Pediatric Rheumatology Division and the Arthritis Foundation, children with arthritis and related conditions have access to a summer residential camp, family days, parent and teen groups, Parent-to-Parent Telephone Network, educational days, and pool parties. The Parent Consultant meets with all patients and acts as a liaison between community programs and Rady Children's.
